Default P/V clearence with this cam...

Can some one help with P/V clearance with this cam. The heads are TPIS ported 241 with 2.02in and 1.56ex valves. The heads are already on the car with a baby 215/220 cam so I didn't want to pull the heads to clay it. I put the motor at TDC, pulled the valve springs and measured valve drop clearance. It was .307" for the intake and .340" for the exhaust and Top dead center. This is a comp cam 228/236 .588/.602 114LSA with XER lobes...This is for a buddies car..

------------------------------------@----0.006"----.050"----0.200"
Intake Duration - ID (first number)-----------277------228----149
Exhaust Duration - ED (second number)------285------236----157
Lobe Center Angle - LCA(also known as LSA)-114------114----114
Intake Centerline - ICL----------------------114------114----114

Intake Valve opens - IVO-------------------24.5------0----(-39.5) BTDC (- indicates ATDC)
Intake Valve closes - IVC-------------------72.5-----48----8.5 ABDC
Exhaust Valve Opens - EVO-----------------76.5-----52----12.5 BBDC
Exhaust Valve Closes - EVC-----------------28.5-----4----(-35.5
) ATDC (- indicates BTDC)
Exhaust Centerline - ECL--------------------114-----114----114
Overlap------------------------------------53-------4---(-75 degrees)

At those durations, and that wide LSA, it should clear an unmilled head. There are a lot of guys running larger cams that clear.

I'd suggest you invest in a pair of checking springs and install the cam. Then, check clearance with a dial indicator by turning the engine a few degees at a time and measuring the clearance at each step.

I thought that the tightest piston to valve clearance occurred just before top dop center on the exhaust stroke?

Depending on the Valve Events, either before or after TDC at the overlap point.

I think the tightest event with this cam will be EVC when the piston is chasing the exhaust valve as it closes...
