Exclamation Need Help Quick!!! 400 Miles From Home

I have a 00 SS, been dyno tuned, all the EGR stuff cut off, yada yada...anyway, i was on the way to florida from north carolina and i noticed a skip in the car on the interstate at 85 mph. i didnt think much of it until i stopped....when i got ready to take off, i knew something was wrong....the car has no power, and if you go more than half throttle, it spark knocks and falls on its face...i have plenty of mechanical knowledge, but i do carbed small blocks...could it be a bad coil pack? maybe a MAF? need some ideas quick....

fuel filter/ or fuel pump try banging on the fuel take while the engine is running, i have seen this happen., the pump starts to slow down and sometimes tapping on the take will get it running back up to speed temporarily

Check engine light? If not I'm agreeing with jay LT4, I would be looking at fuel delivery. Either pressure or volume. Where are you stuck?

new plugs and wires, no codes...had it read eariler. i think i may have found the problem....i checked the heat on the manifolds, and the passenger side is much cooler than the driver side....i think the cats may be stopped up. any input on that? the car wont turn over about 4300 with it on the floor...

4300 with it on the floor. thats not loaded? sounds like fuel. Will it drive at all or does it completely crap out with a load? Any access to a fuel pressure gauge? It seems odd to me that cats would stop up just like that without noticing anything else earlier. Just my .02

i would think that if cats were stopped up you wouldnt be telling us about the pass side being cooler. you would say the drivers side is hot as **** and about to melt the manifold. you know what i mean.

the fuel goes into the drivers side rial right then the drivers side Ts off to the pass side. so maybe the drivers side banks are taking it all because of low pressure.

just a thought. could help out to think about

might be a O2 sensor. my car did something similar when i was on the power tour. passenger side was dumping all the fuel it possibly could. wasn't throwing a code either(dunno why it wasn't). try unplugging the 02(open loop) and see if it continues

drives so-so when you barely get on the gas, but i can still tell it is underpowered...it feels like im towing a 10,000 pound trailer or something...what kinda fuel pressure should i have with the car at idle?...man, if this was a carbed small block without all this electronic crap....lol

ok...checked the fuel pressure, had 60psi at idle. pulled out a couple of spark plugs and they look almost brand new....no signs of leaning out or anything. so, i am leaning more towards the cats now more than ever. anyone had a problem with their cats??

I used to see this often at a muffler shop I worked at a while back. We used to just blow a small hole (1/4") in the exhaust tube before the cat, take it for a drive around the block and see if it still felt sluggish/low on power. More often than not the hole was enough to release some of the back pressure making the car atleast driveable. I'm not real sure on F bodies since its been a while since I looked at one but doesn't the driver side bolt up right to the manifold? That would make it pretty hard to be able to test it like that. If you can pull that cat off and look inside you'll definatley be able to tell if its melted/plugged. Should look like honeycomb and you should be able to see through it. Sounds like maybe an 02 sensor wen't bad or the tune wasn't quite 100% perfect and mayble just a touch too much fuel on that side burned up that cat. This is why I believe they should be removed in all performance applications.

60lbs sounds pretty good. If it is your cats the computer isn't going to tell you since you have the post cat 02s deleted. If you can read the post 02 outputs(autotap or ease) you can compare bank 1 with bank 2. You can also see the reduction in the waveform by comparing pre cat and post cat sensor waveforms. If you display the pre cat and post cat waveforms side by side the post cat waveform should be substantially reduces if the cat is working properly.

Have you checked the connectors to each bank for the coils? I mean the two connectors..each one feeds one whole side of the motor. We had one of those main connectors not making a good connection one time and the car reacted as you said. Under any load it would barely move (for obvious reasons), but strangely enough it would idle and rev up some. By the time we got it working again we had toasted the cat on that side of the car though. Just a thought..
