Solid Roller 383?

Troy
gain, probably 15 rwhp
you're gonna have to spin it to 7000+ which is a lot of wear on the engine
In the olden days, before adjustible lifters were invented, this was part of a normal tune up. (Yeh, I remember this well, I was a small boy, however) Obviously, this requires you to remove the valve covers to adjust the rockers....PITA
In the olden days, these tune ups were about every 15 or 20K miles... like once a year....
Since I don't like periodic valve lashing, this will not be a feature of my modern hot rod...
As far as the conversion, if you are going to make a serious solid roller you'll need the cam, solid lifters, pushrods, some serious valve springs, the heads will require work for the valve springs and the pushrod holes, a set of adjustable roller rockers (the Jesel MoHawks are way cool, that's what are on mine), you might want to have the lifter bores on the block burnished (sp?), a ported oil pump, double row timing chain wouldn't be a bad idea, new valve covers or spacers, coil relocation (it helps for the valve lashing), a bump switch (makes lashing even nicer).
It's not for the faint of heart, definitely a unique street rod. I'm thoroughly enjoying mine on the street and the strip. I need to try a road course again to complete the package!!
It would be pretty cool to be able to shift at 7500 rpm.
