Default Unknown year ls1

Hello, I've got a ls1 pull out here sitting in the garage and am not sure what year it is. I was told there are some numbers by the oil filter area that will determine the year? How many digits is the number supposed to be? Is it on the aluminum part of the plastic part?
Would appreciate any help

I have a 98 TA but I know by block is a 97. Mostly because my car says it was built in 97 but when I started my cam swap and pulled the water pump there was a round raised number that said 97 on it. I am not sure if they stopped doing that but if that is on all the blocks it would be an easy way to tell. The number was beside the front cover right under the driveside head.
