shortblock question...
shortblock question... guys i'm thinking I might just get a new/low mileage shortblock instead of forging/rebuilding my current LS1.... i'm looking at the LS2 shortblocks...
my question is... what's the difference pro's/con's between an aluminum and an iron shortblock?
i know there's a weight difference... not sure how much... but anything else?
now I just gotta find one for a budget build...

i know it around 70lbs between an ls1 and an lq4/lq9. id say it depends on if you want forged and what you want to spend on the block. you can find used iron blocks all over, ls2 block will run a bit more.
If I dont solve the knocking problem in my engine, I'm going to pull the trigger and probably just buy this:

Verdad Gallardo i went with an lq4 because it was $1000 and only had 9,000 miles on it. i have no regrets. if i ever decide to go fi i will feel better knowing its an iron block, even though it wouldnt make much difference if a rod let loose. average price of a good condition ls1 was $1000 and up, with 70,000 miles or more. i feel real good about it because i can run l92 heads instead of being stuck with overpriced aftermarket heads. the iron blocks are cheap and everywhere.
