Default shiming up the rockers, why?????????

I just bought a used set of heads and there were some shims under the rocker rail. why would anyone do that? would it make up for milling the head?

It is to adjust geometry (center wipe pattern on valve tips)

Its all about the valve train geometry. on other cars with adjustible rockers, ive seen then put shim under the spring, no more then 0.040" or put valve stem caps to get everything dialed in.

it effects geometry, which in return effects wipe pattern and preload.

I would double check them personally, but it sounds like someone spent some time setting up the valve train. From what you typically see, that is a rear occurrence.
