ported vs. non ported power gain #'s
ported vs. non ported power gain #'s how much of an actual diffrence in HP/TQ would i see in a 243 head ported w/ valve job vs. stock casting same springs , valves , cam. would milling the heads some ( .015 - .030 ) on stock castings produce more gains vs. porting. the reason im asking is a local shop can do the milling for $35.00 but they dont do any porting work. compared to the normal sponsors cost of $600.00 for porting heads. any suggestions or has any1 tried a setup like this or know some1 who has. i live in a small town and around here talking about a LS1 is like speaking Portugese NOBODY has a clue about any aspect of building these style engines
If the heads are off, clean them up and get a valve job. You will pick up power. First set of heads I ported picked me up 23rwhp. Back then, I didn't want to spend the money. Now I have TFS heads. Do it yourself or have someone help you. Where is your town in VA. I'm up north and never heard of your town.
We've seen 30rwhp gains over stock ls6 heads with no extra decking on the heads. I think ifyou have p/v & some good decking we could see close to 40! Not bad for 575 worth of cnc work, valve job, decking & reassembly.
