Ok I have a friend that bought a 99 vette used. We started looking it over and noticed that the cylinder heads have the casting # ground off of them. Is there anyway you can tell what kind of heads they are? Is there any reason someone would do this? Also we were trying to figure out how you can tell the difference between a ls6 intake witout taking it off and ls1 but thats not as important and should probably be in another section.
Cars with the ls6 intake didnt have an egr tube mounted behind the throttle body. Another way of telling is looking at the bottom, the ls6 intakes had a flat bottom and the ls1's didnt. As far as the heads go I think the casting was an 853 but dont hold me to that. This is the sticky.. https://ls1tech.com/forums/showpost....2&postcount=41

yeah I know the stock casting number for stock 99 heads are usually 853 but I was wondering if they could be different heads on there and if there is a way to tell what kind of heads they are without the casting number. I saw him go to the track and stock after he bought the car he ran 12.8 at 113 I think with like a 2.2 60 I think the car is a little faster than a stock 99 corvette but maybe I a wrong

thats a good idea I didnt think of that. I actually have a set of ported 243 heads on my camaro that I installed. I guess I just dont think about the obvious. We have been trying to figure out why his car beats my friends z06 everytime. But he still hasnt beat me lol.
