Default Flycutting help

I will be needing to flycut, and I have questions. I unserstand the process, but how do I know how deep to cut? what is the average people are cutting? Is there any tips? How long will this take to do? Also, does anyone out there rent the tools? If not, where can I get the cutters? Is there anyone who would be willing th buy the tools after I am done.

The process is to bottom out the cutter, and then slide the collar up as much as you want to cut. what is the average people are cutting? I cut around 80-90 thousands and I think that's about what most people cut. You should only cut as much as you need to though. To figure that out, you need to measure PTV clearance. Is there any tips? Take your time. I also found it helpful to get a right angle drill bit extension to get the back pistons. How long will this take to do? A few hours Also, does anyone out there rent the tools? LG Motorsports rents the necessary tools. If not, where can I get the cutters? Is there anyone who would be willing th buy the tools after I am done. Maybe...maybe not. You can always try ebay or the for sale section here after you buy them. I think most people end up renting the tools.

You cut what you need to cut, never go by what the other guy did. It doesn't matter if you have the exact same engine, pistons, heads, cam. You NEVER cut to someone elses specs.
Call these guys up http://www.lindytools.com/inheadpiston.html they ask the questions, just tell them what you're doing. You need to know the valve head diameter and valve stem size.

I cut .080 on both Intake and Exhaust out of mine, but like the 8a8mfh said you only cut what you need to cut, I was cutting for 2.055/ 1.57 valves on my setup with 59cc chambers and a 23x/ 23x on a 112 camshaft. It might have been overkill but those valves are not going to meet the pistons just yet. Maybe this helps...

One other helpful hint/tip...is that .080 cut is about 1cc so make sure you factor that in when your calculating the SCR and DCR.

I agree you should only cut what you need to, but sometimess people will cut a little extra for when/if they get a bigger cam. You can make up the lost compression from the cuts by milling the heads a bit more. Also, make sure you sand/round the edges of the cut you make in each piston. This will help prevent hot spots and preignition.
