i have acess to a 01 tahoe 4x4 thats in a friends junkyard . the truck had an interior fire was the reason it was totaled. when i popped the hood this thing looked immaculate no dirt, water stains or nothing, looked like it just came off the assembly line(under the hood that is)lol . does anyone know how to tell if this is a 5.3 and not the 4.8(if they had them those years). i know i can tell by the VIN # but what am i looking for in the VIN # ?? any help pleasa guys i think i can get this motor at a steal of a deal. but if its not what i want im not gonna waste my time and TREMENDOUS ammount of effort its gonna take to get it from where its located. any suggestions on removing it quickly (the truck is junk remember so cutting anything away is always an option)

 

What number is on the heads? crawl under and see if you can see the stamp on the block, i cant remember where though.

 

They didn't put 4.8's in the Tahoe, so it is a 5.3.
