well i've been lookin at getting the 393 stroker kit. but the problem is is that the lowest i can get my compression down to is 10.7:10. and im boosting so i need my compression around 9.5:1 at most. so my question is can i use the 4.10 crank and a shorter rod. change the wrist pin height and then use a dished piston to get the desired compression? thanks for the input.

I wouldn't boost the 4.100" crank unless you plan on rebuilding often. That crank in a stock block would be ok N/A, assuming the proper builder, but throwing boost on it would be asking for it. Just build the 4" 383 and add 2 more lbs. of boost. It'll give you better ring spacing and you won't be near as prone to having a oil problem. In any case, you can order the pistons in whatever cc you want to get the compression down. You'll probably need to talk with the vendor about the pistons.
mainly want the 393 based on what i've seen and i dont want the same motor boost combo everybody else has. i talked to je pistons and they said that with the wrist pin height where it is that i cant get a dished piston. im running 70 cc heads

I understand wanting something different, but there is a reason people don't boost long stroke motors. The sleeves in the stock LS blocks have little room to support such a long stroke at BDC, which is why it is critical that you get the correct piston design. Even assuming you get the best designed pistons for the combo, the added boost on top of everything is still going to cause the piston to rock at BDC which will cause premature wear. Assuming that you got a healthy 1.5 HP per cubic inch, your only talking 15 hp difference between the 383 and 393. A extra lb or 2 of boost and you will easily surpass the difference and have a much healthier, longer lasting motor.

Again, with the pin being so high and the rings being crammed together, it's just another reason not to boost the motor. If you go with the 383, the rings will be spaced normally and you will have a wider choice of piston dishes.
