Default Pushrod length for cam change

I started thinking about this after a discussion with another person. The 7.400" pushrod is the correct length is in a factor motor with a stock camshaft, right? Well, if you change the cam, couldn't you just measure the base circle of the original camshaft and the replacement, take the difference, then just add that to 7.400 to get the correct length pushrod?

I'm just asking because alot of people seem to not want to buy the push rod tool and/or afraid to use it. I'm just curious.

I'm not, my cam is stock and staying that way for a while. I'm just asking so we can discuss this and see if this is a possible solution to someone having to buy the pushrod tool.

I'm an Engineer so I think alot.

True, aren't they 7.375 or something like that. Thank you for correcting me, I was mainly just concerned about the theory though.

You would take the difference, then divide by two (your pushrod is operating off the cam RADIUS)
and add it to the pushrod length.
If the base circle was .050" in diameter smaller, you'd add 0.025" to the pr. with all other parameters being equal.

How long have you been an Engineer did you say?
