Thought I read somewhere that Futral Cams are not gun drilled like the factory. Anybody know if this is so? Thinking about an F13.

The FM13 is pound for pound the best cam on the market today IMO. Makes power like a lot of 235-240+ duration cams and 3x better driveability.

Couldn't tell ya on the gun drilled part though. Cam Motion builds the cams for Alan @ FMS.

The old cams were gun drilled. Recently within the past year they stopped gun drilling cams since that production process cost more. They instead took of the mass by using a reduced diameter. The gun drilled vs reduced diameter really does not matter at all. The cams still perform the same.

I know the F13 is very popular on this site and I have numerous friends who run it in there cars. I have had an F14 in my z06 and now have an even bigger Futral cam in my 383. They definitely make power and put out some great torque numbers.

all my crane stuff is gun drilled. I would assume that cam motion is probably doing the same with theres. Alan would know for sure though.

My cam is not drilled. Not sure it makes any difference anyhow. Equates to 1.8 lbs and its on the centerline so inertial affects are minimal. If anything, it would be stiffer but that shouldn't be a factor either. I wouldn't worry about it.

Futral cams are great no matter how they're made they're still the same.

To answer the original question..... No the cams are no longer gun drilled completely through. When we switched over to the new core about a year to 1.5 ago we stopped gun drilling them.

I loved the F13 that was in my old Z28. The cam also loved nitrous

how old was your cam bob, or when was it ground?

I bought it from Joe Vinci while at Carlisle in August 2005.

was it on the shelf for awhile at his place, or did he grind you one? I did a few in '05 and they were not drilled. Most if not all of them now are, unless specified differently. I know all of my stuff is, and I don't have to ask for them to drill it, it's standard now I believe. Have you ever scene a small base circle, gun drilled 50mm roller cam before? It's kinda scary/weak looking, but they hold up.

Stock unit was drilled as was the FTI I helped a friend install. My VHP was not. Can't see that it hurts anything other than the additional 2 lbs.
