Hi Guys,
Was discussing parts for a 427 build with friends a little while back and when I mentioned that If I were selecting parts, I would go for Ross forged pistons, someone said that Arias make a comparable item for a far better price.
I've been researcing them and it seems they have plenty of happy customers in motor sports circles...especially in the drag racing community. They are pretty accurate with the mass of the pistons too (usually to the gram.)
Anyone here used these in their builds?...any comments positive or negative?
Also, what's a popular cam profile for a 427 in the U.S.?
I'm aware that in the US , some states are aggressive on emmissions and I always wonder how say, a guy in California can get away with a more aggressive cam profile. Here in Australia, it is likely that they will start 'sniffer' tests for registration inspections by 2005 and fellas here would be interested in knowing how guys in the US have been getting around it. Any trick to it?

A buddy of mine has Arias pistons in his turbo prelude. The pistons outlasted everything. ![Winky](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_wink.gif)
As for passing emissions, its mostly about knowing the right people. The guy I know will ignore all visual, just as long as I pass the sniffer. So when smog time does come, and I have a monster cam, I'll just have my other buddy who owns an exhaust shop fab me up a multiple cat y-pipe.

Thanks for the feedback, guys...very much appreciated.
Yeah, Arias do look like a good alternative to Ross pistons and as people are saying, VERY good quality at a reasonable price. They have my interest right now.
Now I just need peoples ideas on a 'gun' profile for an LS1 with a 427 CID 'Plant'. Obviously, a fella can go bigger with that many extra cubes but given that this would be for a car that is more of a daily driver and 'road racer' rather than a 'dragster', at what stage do you say..."that's plenty big enough". Who's grinding cams for these applications?
