Possible pump fault. Or your guage cluster could be going out..

Have you taken your intake manifold off recently? It's easy to damage the oil sensor when you remove or install the manifold. The oil sensor screws into the top of the block right behind the manifold.

Either way I would start by replacing that sensor, it's the best place to start.

Do you hear any other noises like tick and pings?

thats what i was trying to get at. if youve had an intake put on maybe you broke the oil pressure sender, or if you have a cam, the o ring on the pump may have been torn.

It sounds like an intermittant electrical connection or a faulty sensor.

When in doubt the only real way to tell is to get somebody to check the oil pressure with an analog guage. Most shops have the piece tapped out and it is fairly easy to check from the location above the oil filter.
