Default Cam Install Problems

Hi guys,

I'm in the process of doing a cam install in my 00' z28. Anyways, i'm at the point where you slide in the rods to hold up the lifters. The drivers side rod when in relatively easily. The passenger side rod however only slides just passed the 5th pushrod hole and won't go anymore. I took a very thing rod i had laying around and it was able to slide all the way through. Can i just use this rod even though its very thin in diameter? Should i try something else? I tried searching why the rod would get stuck for no reason but came up with not much of anything. Any help or ideas would be great. Thanks.

did you try rotating the cam a few times to get the lifters to go up?

/\

As said above, rotate the cam. More than likely one of your lifters isn't sitting all the way up in the retainer.

yes, i've spun the cam numerous times even with the pushrods in it to verify they are popping up and staying up. How is it though that i can push the lifters down on the side with the rod in all the way? i don't understand how that works.

Try using a thin strong pen magnet to pull the lazy lifter up into the retainer while pushing the correct diameter rod through the hole. Why not just replace the lifters anyhow over to LS7's=$100? Only additional expense is head gaskets/new head bolts to go that route. All extra insurance in my opinion.
