Default Anyone had experience with a cam like this? v.custom grind

So the place I got my car dynoed at has their own custom grind that will pass smog (important since im in ca). But it's a 232/236 .590/.595 115lsa

Anyone had experience with such high duration and lift with 115 lsa? I'm just curious how it will run. I'm a little concerned at what it will pull to as I dont want to rev too high

Not to doubt you but I have a hard time believing a cam that size will pass smog. Rule of thumb is 224/224 is as big as you can go.

Actually the rule of thumb has to do with overlap. A 224/224 on a 110 will not pass, but a 224/224 on a 114 will. A 218/218 on a 110 will pass. A 228/228 on a 112 will not pass, but a 228/228 on a 116 will. Zero degrees of overlap is cutting it too close, aim for -2 to -4 degrees overlap at .050.

A 232/236 on a 115 is still going to give 4 degrees of valve overlap at .050 thousanths lift, I don't see how it can reliably pass. I don't have my spreadsheet open, but I also can't see myself liking the valve events.

To be assured of passing the sniffer, I've always used -7 degrees of overlap as the cutoff for passing the sniffer. With a razor sharp tune, you can push it to -4 or even -2 degrees, but that's really pushing it.

With 4 degrees of overlap, a 232/236 115LSA cam has no hope of passing the sniffer for the majority of people. Plus the very late intake valve closing point is going to make the cam very gutless at lower rpm. Not a good choice. The best cam depends upon your mods and goals.

Does passing smog in Cali, mean mandatory sniffing even for newer cars
(OBD2) like ours, or can they sometimes just use the diagnostic scan like some other states do. I do not know if all of Cali is the same, or if it is run on a county by county basis.
