do you need main studs? The main bolt configuration, is it really nescesary to put studs in? are they that much more stronger? Has anyone had a stock bolt configuration fail? and what HP level did you see that?

Now are you guys using them because of hear-say and because they are available? Or do you actually need them and they serve a major purpose? I have a 700hp boosted engine now with a stock main bolts and it has not came flying out yet. Thank you guys for answering, but you guys lack explanations that I seek. How much HP does it take to make the stock bolts fault?
I do not think you need them assuming the stock bolts are installed according to gm specs and have the correct stretch on them. A lot of people on these boards use more than they need cause it makes them "feel" better...like porting and shimming the oil pumps without considering the size of the oil passage in the block that the oil is pumped into or having more pressure than necessary and wasting hp or pumping the oil out of the pan and actually starving the bearings. I like studs cause the torque is applied to the steel threads of the stud rather than the soft aluminum of the block. Is your truck turboed or supercharged?
