noise from exhaust i have a 00 trans am and there is thisannoying raspy sound when i hit around 3k but only around 3k. there is a heat shield right above my ypipe that is about and inch above the ypipe. i have bad motor mount on the passengers side of the car. im thinkin that when the motor gets to 3k, it torques up enough to make the ypipe touch that heat shield, in turn making this annoying noise. does anyone have any thoughts on this???
Rasp is usually not the term used to describe the sound of the y-pipe banging the floor pan. Plus you already answered your own question by admitting you have a bad motor mount. Put some poly inserts and it will take care of the banging, but it will not fix "rasp". That would require a different exhaust setup.

regardless you need to get new mounts. rasp and banging y pipe are 2 different problems. Rasp could be from the having an offroad Y instead of a catted. or maybe the cherry bombs dont like agree with the exhaust setup before them. most of the time a good set of cats will fix rasp though
