Check out the book "Dyno-proven gm ls1 thru ls7 performance parts" its say's that :
ls6 intake is worth 15 hp
ls2 intake is worth 9 hp
weiand is worth 15 hp
fast is worth 20 hp
BBK SSI is worth 27 hp
Qoute:

"From the looks of it BBK SSI intake is a serious challanger to the FAST LSX manifold. Replacing the stock ls1 intake with the BBK SSI on the modified ls1 resulted in some pretty serious power gains. The SSI was worth as much as27 hp at the top of the rev range, with horsepower gains occurring as low as 3,700 rpm"

I bought the BBk not the FAST

I recommend buying this book you can get a lot of tips from a guy that has actually tested a lot of parts

Book

******* junk. It does NOT make more power than a 90mm fast. Would be a stretch to say that it makes much more than a ls6. Yes I have one, yes it isnt impressive. The casting is very rough and doesnt have the finish work needed.

Yea, i saw that book a few years ago and i was amazed from the results and i was suprised nobody really said anything on here about this book. Maybe people are just passing it off as propaganda, but i think their being un-biased. Anyways, im waiting for the new weiand intake, but if i had another choice i would get the BKK SSI intake. but then again, i think any intake is an upgrade from having the regular ol' LS1 intake like i do. If i had an LS6 intake stock to begin with, i would not upgrade to any other intake except maybe an FAST or the new weiand (if it lives up to its hype)

Not enough people run them to make any clear-cut impressions. The few people that have them are all over the map with performance numbers. I'm not a big fan of aluminum intakes outside of FI applications, but competition is good for development and I'd like to see BBK do well...

I had one on my z/28. Bought the bbk ssi and sold my ls6. Had the ssi on for two years and couldnt figure out why my car always ran rich and had small idle issues here and there. Come to find out 4 out of the 12 screws holding in the removable bottom plate on the bbk had worked there way out of there threads and were just laying under the intake. Pulled it off and used lock tite on them. Put it back on and it still leaked. I had it on and off a total of 4 times and it kept constantly leaking. Threw it in the trash and just bought a LS6 intake to put back on. Should have never bought it. Ontop of the fact that the throttle body that comes with it sticks to all hell and makes the gas peddle stick as well. Aluminum intake runs hotter and takes longer to cool off. Stay away... Just my opinion...

I have had no problems with mine at all. Yes the runners are a little rough, but for the $$$ saved it didn't bother me one bit to run a rotary file up there to knock down the boogers and the a couple sand paper rolls to smooth it all out.

IMHO... the ls6 is a good outta the box, slap it on and run with no issues intake. its been proven, there not expensive and for most setups on the stock ls1 / ls6 motor gets the job done.

if you gonna go with an aftermarket intake that has the removable plate and such, then at least use the benefits it has over the ls6 intake, which, and maybe not limited to, is the removable bottom plate. send it somewhere to get some nice port work done...

Like i mentioned, if someone already has an LS6 manifold keep it. But for someone who wants to replace their stock LS1 manifold with something NEW, then i think BBK is the best manifold to go with. I wrote NEW because you can grab an LS6 intake USED on here for around 350.00, but for someone looking at a brand new LS6 intake, its around 485.00.
A BBK intake goes for 399.99 (New Era) and it outflows the LS6 intake and then it has the ability to upgrade to a wider throttle body (85mm).

If my memory serves me right, I remember researching that intake, as I'm kinda shopping for an intake myself. If I recall, the complaint with this intake was that it held heat, a lot, thus reducing the air charge (cold air flows better than hot).

I could be wrong though, but I remember researching that intake and deciding it was better to just hold out for a used LS6 intake in the "For Sale" section.

^^ The air doesnt stay long enough in the intake manifold for it to cause any change in temperture. Heat soak has been de-bunked already.

BTW, in all seriousness, I am going to shoot that intake and a few other things with my 10 gauge and slugs or 30/06. Going to do a real "torture" test and video the durability of a few things I have fallen out of love with.

i bought the bbk ssi i like it and it's not even on the car the bottom piece is great getting into the ports and what not, manifold cleans up well if you port and what not , i guess it all depends what your doing with it , good for nitrous i mean lets face it , it's aluminum compared to composite alot stronger .... it's all up in the air not every car is the same so your going to see diffrent results from diffrent manifolds
