Default what size dowel

For a cam swap to hold the lifters up? how well does it work? Any tricks to it?

I make mine out of 5/16" metal rods and ground a flat spot down the intier length of the rod's pass by the lifters then twist them to lock them down . Cut them around 22" long and if you have access to a welder you can weld you a (T) on the end to help turn and remove them, but its not a must.

5/16" wooden dowels from Home Depot worked for me. I had some steel ones, but they wouldn't go all the way in.
