Default Cam for stock heads

I was wondering what the absolute most agressive cam is that I can put in a 98 LS1 with stock heads.

The car has an LS6 intake, LT headers, and is an M6.

I have already went out and bought a set of Patriot Gold springs to go onthe heads.

Curious of what cam specs stock heads can handle.

Any and all input is appreciated.

Thanks all. Trust me this car is not a DD. I think I put 1200 miles on it last year, so drivability is not a factor at all. Actually the more lope the better in my eyes!!!!!

alright guys...im looking to go cam only. ive been looking at the ms4 for quite some time now, so close that im searching around forums for people selling the cam. i recently came across the vindicator and i see and read that they are pretty dam similar cams when it comes to specs. the SS is not a daily driver, driven only in the summer. saying i want to put the biggest cam possible seems somewhat ignorant, but i want to put in a big cam nevertheless. the more i read the more i find descrepancies so i was wondering if anyone could give me some difinitive answers on what cam to pick, and this is WITHOUT having to flycut the pistons as you guys may have already figured...thankxxx

Buyer beware - most cams of that calibre end at, or just less than the safe recommended minimum clearance. Most agree that .080" Int. .100" exhaust is the least you should run, and possibly more on a hydraulic roller manual trans car that has a heavy valve train the the possibility of a mechanical overev.

In a nutshell, running a big cam for the sake of having a big cam just doesn't make sense. You will likely get similar performance from a slightly smaller cam and not lose any of the benefit. If you insist on running a cam that large, at least measure, rather than take someone's word it will fit. Too many variables to leave it to chance.

Lol you dont need one with as high lift as mine. Everyone says measure PTVC, measure PTVC, measure PTVC. I say if i gotta remove my heads to flycut my pistons I'll do it for a nice set of ported heads that i bought because my valves started hitting my pistons . A set of stock 241s is worth what, $200? That's about what gaskets and bolts cost to check PTVC so really it's just a toss up. I'm a risk taker. I say go with the Trex if you want a proven, mean sounding cam that you can rev the hell out of. That's what i was orgionally going to go with.

I know the specs are very close between the MS4 and MS3...but with typically 5 less horsepower from the MS3 is it a lot safer and not so "on the edge"! Do to the specs being 603 instead of 649 on the intake!

TSP Torquer v3 here on stock heads (but not for long) and it's everything I wanted out of a cam.
