Default New to the LS1 - How to mod?

I am getting ready to possibly buy a '99 LS1 tomorrow for $1500. First off, is this a killer deal for a good LS1? Median price seems to be around $3000 give or take. Guy claims about 30k miles on the motor.

I am putting this motor in a 65 Vette and was planning on spending about $6000 on the motor. This leaves me about $4500 for other required components and mods. This is my first time to the LSX series and was wondering how easy they are to mod. Will $4500 +/- take me to about 500hp? More? I was also thinking about throwing a blower on it either whipple or centrifugal. How do these motors handle boost stock? Thanks for the info..

Mike

well im not sure on the price of a used longblock
but if u are looking to mod just find a block and crank and start from there
an ls1 or even a 5.3 block which are me a dozen and have it bored to the ls1 bore

good set of scat i beam rods will run you about--250
nice set of pistons and rings--------------------700
patriot stage 3s ls6 heads----------------------1300 (i think??)
cam-------------------------------------------400
fast 90/90-------------------------------------???? they sale used on here alot
then all the miscalaneous but yea 4500 is a good budget for 500 hp or close
