Cam Swap: Keep OEM oil pump?
Cam Swap: Keep OEM oil pump? The only reason I ask to keep the oem oil pump when doing my cam swap is because, right now, at idle (cold or warm) the oi pressure is at 55psi. That is a lot, and it only gets higher when the rpms go up.
Seems like whatever oil pump is in there works awesome, and I don't want to ruin it. Should I still swap it out with a ported ls6 oil pump anyways?

might as well while your in there is my view on it. My car is the same way, great oil pressure from OEM, only 30K on the clock, but just doing it now with cam swap to be safe and to save time down the road. Plus if I have any problems, Ill just throw the stock one back on. How many miles on ur car? what size cam?

I'm sorry. Yes it is always advised to replace the oil pump. Some buy stock others buy a ported one. I bought a Melling oil pump from SDPC.

same here, i bought the melling stock replacement, but ive got 105,000 on the car so mine was a no brainer.
i would aldo look into a new timing chain if you havent already. you can get those at the dealer for ~$30
