Default compblower cam and pushrod length

I got some great info from Vettenuts over on corvetteforum, but before I install my new pushrods, I have a question about the length.

I put in ported 243 heads and a comp cams blower cam. The valves were oversized, so they are not the LS6 hollow/sodium filled valves. When measuring with a comp cams pushrod length checker, 6.800" - 7.800" I turned it 9.5 turns to where the rocker was not tickig on the valve stem, but no pressure on the lifter. That gave me a length of 7.275. I then added .100 for lifter preload for a total of 7.375".

My question is why do I calculate a shorter than stock pushrod? it is my understanding that the base circle for comp cams is smaller than my 97 LS1 stock cam.
Any thoughts?

I installed the 7.375 rods. It took 2 turns from the time the rocker stopped ticking to the 264lbs/in torque spec. Does that sound correct? I have read conflicting thoughts on the subject.

Are your heads milled? Which gasket are you running.
What are the cam specs (lobes)
22lbs/ft is your trq on rockers, that has to be done on base of cam lobe. 2 turns sounds like your p-rods are too short.

Sorry man, I've been away a couple of days. The heads have not been milled. Cam specs are: 226/232 .570/.575 114 and I am using the later model GM MLS gaskets.

Too short, I would use 7.425, Or aftermarket 7.400 at least

Well, ****. Why do my calculations keep coming up with the shorter pushrods?
