Default 843's v.s. 241's

Crap I have 853 heads...is this bad compared to the 241's....if I plan to go with a tr224 or tsp228 cam would the fact that I have 853's hurt the performance....would you put springs in a 853 or spend the money to polish them or should I just buy LS6 heads or better? I have a funny feeling I am going to spend more money than I thought...but I have that horsepower bug bitting me and I want to do it right the first time...car only has 40k miles

Are you sure you didn't mean 853 head castings ?

806 97-98 aluminum perimeter bolt 5.7
853 99-00 aluminum center bolt 5.7
241 01-03 aluminum center bolt 5.7 (some late MY00 cars got 241 castings)

241 cast heads were Die Cast which is a process that smooths up the ports a bit compared to the Sand Cast procedure that was done on the 806 and 853 heads. Once ported any "advantage" the 241 cast had is moot.

the 853 is the same as the 241 just a differnent cast! the most you will probly gain going from 853 to 241 heads is about 8RWHP which is not much and not worth the time to get new heads!
