Default Timing chain replacement

I know this will seem like a dumb question but I am wondering if I should replace my timing chain as preventative maintenance. The car has about 95K on it now and has developed a water pump leak so I will be right there. I think the turbo kit will keep me away from doing heads cam right now but should I go ahead and change it while im down there or will it be safe making >500Hp until I get out of school or about 12-20K miles from now?

there is more to it than just pulling the cover off. You have to lower the oil pan so you can get the oil pump pick up tube bolt out and then you have to unbolt the oil pump and slide it off the crank. That's after you get the balancer off the front of the crank

And don't reuse the dampner/pulley bolt..get a new one. & while your at it put a Melling hi Vol pump on it.....I would expect (w/good syn oil & reg maint) that you will not need to touch it for another 100K miles & if you don't have open hoses hanging down to the ground for breathers. These motors are unreal! Seeing them go 200-300k miles & still be pretty good runners.

You can get the oil pump pick up tube bolt (1) off without dropping the oilpan.

The C5 oil pick up bolt is on the pass side, the F-Body bolt is on the driver's side of the tube. That is why you don't have to drop the oil pan on the C5's.
