Several of our sponsors do. Its going to be a matter of personal preference. Location also plays a key role in deciding on an engine builder, you will have better access to the shop if you live nearby.

I was lucky enough to live a mile from MTI

How about just an aluminum short block? I checked a couple of the sponsors and didn't see anything.

We carry ARE short blocks in any CI up to 440CI. Call us for details. I run an ARE motor in my 9 second T/A.

couldn't a local machine shop do the same thing if you bought the right sleeves?

no, not really. Its a sketchy process, and the good vendors went through alot of mistakes before they figured out their methods. Im pretty sure that the really successful ones now almost all use an oven on the block and freeze the sleeves before inserting them. The resulting expansion/deformation wouldnt be trivial to handle or predict...so I'd leave it to the Pros.

wow...they didn't know that it'd be easier to heat up the block and then put frozen sleeves in there? that's sad if that required research.

Maybe you should open up your own shop where your ideas and implements are without flaw. Heck, I'd buy from a business that never made any mistakes in R&D. Talk about a quality product. In fact, you should call up all the big dawg tuners to the right in the column and give the your # that way they can call you when they are wanting to implement a new idea into a car. You'll save them TONS of money.

i'm sorry, common sense tells you that **** fits easier if one is heated and one is frozen...that doesn't take research...cold contracts and heat expands...i'm not gonna argue with you though.

Shew, thank god for that eye opening rebuttal. I'm not gonna argue either with that elegant theory.

I have a block for sell that comes honed, new hardened Dura-Bond cam bearings, and new ARP main studs. Some people think the dry sleeves are better than the wet sleeves. I called Darton who makes the dry sleeves for Agostino racing and the wet sleeves. The tec said the wet sleeves are far better and can take more abuse, and that the dry sleeves are milled very thin to get a 4.125" bore. He said Darton has been using wet sleeves for years in motors that make over 1000 hp with out any problems. Also with the wet sleeves you get better heat transfer. Morgan Machine Shop are setting the motor up for me. Naturally aspirated cars with 427 CI are running the ¼ mile the low to mid 10's, with NOS there hitting the mid to hi 9's. Max bore is 4.160" and the largest crank I've seen is 4.250" I would be willing to go 3000 shipped. I would be willing to go 3000 shipped. You can email me at NRKnause@midamerican.com
