Default Shiney Pushrod Tip?

Just finished a head install and put new lifters in with the hope of curing my tapping noise

Should the tips of the pushrods that are against the rockers be shiney? Mine were - does that mean the preload (too much or too little?) was incorrrect or the lifters werent working?

Tapping still there

Going to recheck the rocker arm torque is 22-24 ft-lb tomorrow, but not sure what else to do. What else could cause tapping louder on driver's side?

What kind of lifters? What did you set the preload to? What cam? The ends of the pushrods should be shiney, no relation to preload.

A rocker that is losing its needle bearings and loosening up could cause the tap. Could also just be a simple exhaust leak.

I think you are right about the needle bearings in the rocker. Could I look at the rocker and tell ?

I had them all off and they all felt the same. But I didn't look for anything specific. I'm going to retorque them today, so I can take a look at them.

If only a few needles are out you might not be able to tell by looking while installed. You can feel the slop in them when they dont have bearings though.

The needles cant come out unless the side caps are broken out and missing.

A brand new in the package stock rocker arm was pretty sloppy but all the needle bearing were there. I though it was strange that they were so loose.

Just check the side caps for cracks.
