Use the clay method or the checker spring and dial indicator method. Google "piston to valve clearance" and you will find out how to do it.

Brad hit it on the head. If you are looking for an equation to figure it out, there isnt one, too many variables for a consistant equation. I just got educated in this matter. The clay is the way to go.

clay is probably best, but if you're just wanting to see if you have a certain amount of clearance, you can put feeler gauges of that thickness between rocker tip and valve...that won't tell you exactly how much you have tho.

Use a dial gauge and a test spring, and measure in 2* increments from 15* BTDC to 15* ATDC

That's what I do and then I plan to double check everything with clay.

Where are you getting your clay? I have not been able to find any around here yet.

Thanks,
Bill
