is it ok to switch from hydraulic lifters to solid roller lifters without changing the cam?

 

I guess technically you could, however you wont see any benefit from it. People run solid lifters when they have cams so radical that the required spring pressure would collapse the hydraulic lifter.

 

my understanding was that the solid lifters will open the valves quicker and improve performance across the rpm range especially high rpm.

 

Negative. The oil in a hydraulic lifter does not compress, and does not absorb the cams initial lifting movement. Its simply there to fill up the space so that the valve lash is taken up automatically.

Solid lifters will only increase performance because they allow you to use a radical cam profile that requires ungodly spring pressures to control without valve float. The spring pressures would be too great for a hydraulic lifter to handle.

 

I wouldnt switch. Youre going to have more trouble adjusting the lifters when they are solid

 

How do you adjust lifters???

You mean rockers right??

 

Yes the rocker ,but you will use filler gauges to set the valve lash
