Default 98 LS1 oiling issues???

I would really appreciate any link that discusses some of the oiling issues that 98 and 99 LS1 engines supposedly had back then and did they straighten it out by 00-02?Thanks,Chris

The only thing I can even think of is that the oil pumps had some problems. That's the only oiling problem I know of.

No problems with mine. I just turned 120k and still have stock pump and I've been running the cam for about 1,000 miles. From what I understand the ports in the block were what was changed. The 98 oil passages did not flow as well as the later blocks. I've never had an issue with mine and at this mileage I won't hesitate to pick up a 98 block for a future build.

My98 never had a problem. Never burned oil and when I removed it, at 139,000 miles, it was still running perfect. Great engine.

I have heard that the oil passages on the 97-98 blocks were pretty small, and that was the problem gm fixed on the 99-04 blocks. Basically the passages were 2 small holes side by side and the later blocks had just a big opening back there. Honestly it wont be an issue until you get into the crazy hp ranges.
