Default questions need some tech help please

alright right now the setup im considering for my car is as follows

kooks 1 7/8 headers
kooks catted hi-flo y pipe
borla adj catback (open plate)
Comp Cams XTREME RPM HIGH LIFT XR275HR - 222/224 - .566/.568 w 1.7 rocker - 112 LSA
fast 90mm intake manifold
nw 90mm tb
afr 205 heads

i like this cam and have chosen it because it has little surge makes consistent power throughout the power band and has a nice flat tq curve in the upper rpm's. here is the problem or what i feel to be the problem.....im thinking im leaving a bit on the table power wise going with this small cam. im not looking for outrageous numbers(shooting for 450rwhp) which i have seen similar setups (ie same cam different manifold) hit 450 and hold it to 6500 rpm. the slightly larger cams ive seen those slightly over .600 make more peak but the torque drops below 400 at 6500 rpm. so right now im considering the hpe c cam
HPE C Cam (232/234, 112 LSA, .595/.598)
but ive only seen s cam dyno results. so my question to you is do you think i can maintain consistent power throughout the power band like the comp cam? do you think the c cam would still compliment my setup if only changing the cam? my other questions are for those of you that have had experience with the hpe c cam: hows the surge? do you have any dyno charts i can look at?

*note: i am aware of the bad blood between chuck and the people on this site. i ask that you dont jack my thread with name calling or bs of that nature. if you have some to say that can help me by all means say it good or bad i just dont want any trash talk please. thanks.

I built a car with the same H/I/E but I went with a 224/228 cam. This is also an M6 w/ 3.73s. Haven't dyno'd yet but I'm expecting excellent results. If you really like that HPE 232/234 cam I'd suggest the torquer v.2 because it uses XER lobes. Not sure what type HPE uses but the XER has a more aggressive ramp rate. go with the 224 228 and step down with the headers - 1 7/8s are too large and you will lose velocity, unless you are only interested in the peak number 1 3/4 will more than do the job.

the only issue is i have them already they arent on the car. but i figure with the heads and the 90/90 setup i would be pushing a bit of air and the 1 7/8 shouldnt hurt it to bad given i will have cats in the system to help create a bit of backpressure.

I agree 1-3/4” headers would be better suited for your setup.

I do not know if you will reach 450rwhp with the 222/224 .566/.568 cam, but I bet it would drive nice with a good tune. What is your goal? I think too many people get caught up in trying to hit some high peak hp goal and forget about power under the curve. When I put my H/C/I/E package together, I knew I wanted a fair weather street toy with excellent manners/drivability. Torque down low is more important to me than peak numbers. My 224/228 110lsa cam is as big as I would want to go for the goal I was working towards. In fact, I may have been happier with a slightly smaller cam. It all depends on personal preferences. You have to know what you want.
