Default Name that noise. [video]

I know you guys get a lot of these threads and diagnosing problems over the internet is like trying to play darts in the dark but eh its worth a shot.

I'm new to the LS1 world and to me this noise sounds VERY BAD! however there's no driveability issues and the power seems all there. Oil pressure seems ok to me, It's almost always above 40 only rarely going to 30ish+ at idle.

The only things I can add are, it seems to go away (or at the very least becomes really hard to hear) once the car has fully warmed up. also its not really noticeable above 2k rpm. Though, these are just my best observations.

Car is a 2000 with 83k, A4, only mods are lid and LT's with catback.

I suppose the video makes it seem a little louder than it is but the noise is pretty damn loud... so what could it be? normal? pushrod(s)? or worse?

It's piston slap. Nothing to worry about, almost all of them do it.

Yea, I was hoping it was that, but the more I hear it the less I think thats what it is. sometime this weekend I'm going to pull the valve covers and make sure nothing is horribly wrong.

OK, I had a similar noise once and found that I had a hi flow cat coming apart and it was the element slapping and resonating through the whole system. Shake the cat or pound it with your fist and see if you hear movement. It sounds like slap but you never known what you'll find sometimes.

so yea, late as heck update but I honestly just now got to taking it apart, and for better or worse I've been driving it all this time.

Pulled passenger side pushrods, back few were slightly bent and had what looked like serious rub marks running most of the length of the pushrod.

Anywho, just figured I'd update the thread. Going to pull the rest tomorrow and replace all of them. Hopefully thats all it needs.

I helped Onemanarmy take this car apart and I believe the lifter has collapsed and is not letting the push rod seat and is grinding the top of the push rod into the rocker. If anyone has heard of this let me know. I will get Onemanarmy to post some pics of the push rods up. If this is the case and we put it back together would it be okay to drive for a little bit or is it to big of a chance?

Thank you for your help
