Was tapping on a new valve seal and the little spring which goes around the rubber at the top of the seal came flying off. Am I screwed or is it not a big deal?

What the hell is that little spring thing anyways?

 

Take one off the old seal, You need it ,it keeps it sealed to the valve stem

 

pull 1 of an old seal. The spring is there to keep a little tension of the seal around the valve stem.

 

Where did the spring go?

 

At the very top of the seal ,There is a ring cut in the seal for it.

 

Well It broke when I was tapping it in. I found it in the head and thought it was a piece of lint from a rag. Glad I checked.

And thanks everyone, I pulled a spring off of an old seal and rolled it on the new one, and it worked like a champ.
