Angry lifters

I have questions about diagnosis of lifter problems.
I brought my 2002 ws6 TA to the dealer with lifter noise that goes away
after warm up.
they are telling me it is the o-ring in the oil pick up tube.
I have a couple problems with this.

1 if the oil lifters are draining down they are going to get scored by the cam
2 the cams are going to get scored by the lifters
3 the lifters are suppose to ride on a film of oil and S/B preloaded correctly
4 the tsb was never sent to me for this condition.
5 i bought the car new.
6 why should i pay for this when it is the factories mistake
7 if i let them do this and they don't correct the results of there mistake i am
going to still have problems.
8 gm decided to change the location of the oil pump and are having problems
with this decision why should I have to pay for there mistake.
9 there is only 25,000 miles on the motor.
10 how can i get a gm rep to look into this problem?

if there are more people with this problem please write back

Thats easy. talk to the service manager and make him promise if it does not fix the problem , You won't pay for a mis-diagnosis and a repair you didn't need. There was a problem with the oil pump o-ring being cut, But very few were actually found to be damaged.

I did many of them years ago as a dealer tech. good luck.

A real possibility. I have heard LS motors where the piston slap won't totally go away after warm up. My 5.3 Z-71 has piston slap at start up but sometimes it will have a faint random tick too. 177K and going strong though

Yours is an 02, you have the newer pistons. The tick could be from carbon build-up, especially if you don't drive it hard. I had this problem with my 02 after a long trip where most driving was in 6th gear. I now use something to prevent the carbon build-up.

Why not try getting rid of the carbon first. Its cheap and if it doesn't work you are only out a few bucks. The torn o-ring would have shown itself long before now.
