Default Where is TDC of number one?

I'm doing a H/C swap and I need to determine the correct push rod length to order. The number one piston is the first piston (if I'm looking at the block) on the driver side correct? And TDC would be when when both the crank timing mark and cam timing mark are at 12:00 correct?

Yes, first on driver's side. Drop a pushrod down the intake lifter hole, put your finger on it so it will go back down (no valve spring so you need to push the lifter to keep contact with cam). When pushrod goes down (intake closes) bring piston to top and you will be at TDC. I thought you had the timing cover on already.

I do, currently the timing marks are aligned. So if I rotate the crank 360 degrees the timing mark will be at TDC. Since its at its firing stroke anywhere near TDC should be fine for checking for pushrod zero lash correct? Also what lifter preload do you recommend?

Snice its together, put a dab of white paint at the 12 o'clock position of the pulley, then you know where the piston is.
