I have a 5.3L with the ls6 valve springs. I am running the comp camps 265hr high lift cam and am wondering how many miles I can run these before i should redo them?

mine only lasted 1 summer of driving then i started having valve float at 6200 rpm

swapped to pac-1218 springs and everything has been fine since then running to 6800 rpm+

what do you expect from a set of springs that you can get for $50 a set

running that setup on the LS6 springs is asking for trouble. Spend the extra $100 and get some good springs so you dont have to spend a few grand down the road to fix your motor from broken springs flying all over the inside...

WOOOOWWWW!
Ls6 springs are only rated to a .570 lift!
That is way too close for me!
Just go with a better set of springs or it might cost you alot more later!

I thought they were rated for .580? My redline is set to like 6200 or 6300rpm for now too, if that effects anything. The stock ls6 cam is around .555 lift correct?

Thanks

Default springs

I believe the Ramp rates of the Comp cam is too aggressive compared to stock lobes(read fatigue).I'd hate to regret not spending now and costing ALOT later
my .02c

probably wont last long at all with that lift. So far, my LS6 springs have lasted 20k miles, but my cam is only .525 lift.

yellow and orange LS6 springs are good to .580 lift, but like zman said the ramp rate of that cam is what will kill them.

Get the double springs which are very stout and last a long time with higher lift cams.

My cam and double REV springs have been in my car for six years now; no issues!

Consequently, I am very glad I used doubles....

Those are comp XE Lobes, right? Its not the lift, its the ramp rates of the lobes themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if even fresh LS6 springs have float on that cam. Id get some real springs ASAP.

Alright, I'll change out the springs to the comp cams that use the stock retainers next month.
