Race only application?
Guys, I know 99% of this forum is street/track builds. But I have a son who runs an extended cab S10 in a Mud racing class. The requirements are factory block and heads but any mods to each. They run race fuel. His setup is currently a 383 GenII with some GM cast iron head. He runs a powerglide with a stall, this application does OK but he could use some more power. I have a CTSV that I am pulling the LS6 heads from and a spare LS6 block. I was talking to him the other day and mentioned that I think that if the LS6 heads if they were ported like someone as TEA and we took the block and added the 402 Lunati stroker kit with about 13.5 to 1 compression, a good 7K rpm cam with supporting valve train, an edelbrock victor JR MPI intake with Holley aftermarket EFI. I think this combo would be pretty powerful when we run race gas with high compression and not worry about any streetability in the build. He currently runs a 4500 stall. Does anyone have any experience in a similar race only application. about what kind of horsepower this LSX vs GenII can produce. I don't think he is over 450HP with the current motor if that. Plus this engine would reduce weight which would really help him. Can the 402/ported LS6 head, nice roller cam/ high compression engine with aftermarket induction make 600HP at the flywheel. I am open to any suggestions. Thanks.

Block - Lunati 402 LS6
Heads - fully ported 243's (LS6 heads)
Camshaft - 238/242 .605/.610 112lsa
Intake Manifold - ported FAST 90/90
Exhaust - 1 7/8 headers, ORY pipe, full exhaust
*upgraded rockers, springs, lifters, push rods, etc.
I think the above combo will net you ~500 rwhp with 11.5:1.

600 crank hp is easily doable. And you can do it with a lot less than a gen1 smallblock
I have a yj jeep that was built for mud drags, with a stock 5.3. It does great even stock.
