Default whats a good idle

i was wondering what a good idle is for my car being an A4 my mods are in my sig and im getting my car retuned on sunday its at 1100 right now is that too high??

i idle just below 1000 so like 900-950 but i have stock heads i dont know if that has anything to do with it

yea thats about what i idle at. 3rd at like 45 its still at 1k. haha gotta love the ls1

ok im just thinkin i need to lower it a little bit so do you like where is at and twitchtwice i bet u have a m6, im tryin to find people with the a4's

I had a F13 in my old Z28 and the idle was set at 850

With a cam your size and a A4, i would idle it at 650-700

Are you sure youre really at 1100? My tach reads 150 high, so 1100 would actually be 950.

im pretty sure because my cars idle is at like 1200 or so anyway and i remember my tuner put my idle at 1100 for some reason??? but i dont like it that high so i wanna drop it and im just curious of what everyone else has with a A4

on a 114 im sure the idling could be lowered some...my old cam 220/224 on a 114 idled at 950 on a mail order...and had a nice little chop...im a4

I idle at 500-600 RPM's but i have the stock cam.

Our Camaro's idle is set at 1100 (A4) so it has enough vacuum for the brakes. Of course our cam is a little bigger than yours, but we are installing a vacuum canister and will drop the idle; until the 454 is ready to go in. But there are times when the car drops its idle down to around 850-900 and man does it sound good!

yea drop that idle sometimes when i start my car cold it idles around 1200 it doesnt really sound like i have a cam untill it warms up and drops to 900 then it sounds like a monster

Mine idles fine at 850. You should be able to go a little lower. The tuner that set it at 1100 was cheating. I wouldn't take it back to him.

yeah i have no idea why it was set so high but it really took a lot of my sound out of the cam

Probably because idle tuning is the hardest part of tuning. If you set it high it makes tuning much easier.

that size cam should idle 800ish no problem........

yeah just got it retuned today and its sitting on 875 which sounds a hell of a lot better and the car runs great
