Default upgrade rod bolts - part #?

so i'm planning some fairly extensive mods for the ta. the 99 shortblock is not going to like it. i have decided to upgrade the rod bolts (among other things) while the engine is out and easily accessible. i feel that the katech rod bolts are overkill for my desires and wicked expensive when compared to the ls6 replacement rod bolt. gmpartsdirect offers them for $2.52 ea, but i have an in at a dealership and can often get parts much cheaper. $2.52 seems VERY cheap. part #: 12568069 do i have the right part number?

also - are these gm replacement bolts just like the katech bolts in the sense that i can simply remove one and put the other in place of it? one at a time..

thanks for your input.

Your looking to upgrade your rod bolts by going with the cheapest you can find? Check ebay for some used ones

why even take the time to replace them? Go with aftermarket or leave them alone. You wont be gaining anything

i'm not TRYING to go with the cheapest i can find, it just so happens that these bolts are cheap. i originally wanted to find the 01+ bolts, i had no idea they were so cheap. .

i guess the 01+ bolts are no better than the 99s using this theory?

2001+ bolts were revised when the LS6 came out. Both teh LS1 and teh LS6 use the same rod bolts. The LS6's comfortably spin 6600 from the factory, so many feel comfortable spinning them even higher. Ive tagged my 7000 rpm redline a couple of times without problems.

Personally I would look into the ARPs if youre on a budget. Much stronger than the 01+ stock bolts. Regardless of the disclaimer, theyre also direct replacement. Id much rather trust a directly replaced ARP bolt with a disclaimer than a GM bolt.

2001+ bolts ARE in fact stronger and will resist stretching more so than the 97-00 but really, if you're not going to be going with a stronger bolt such as ARP or Katech don't bother. It's not worth it IMO.

Kinda falls under the philosophy "do it right or don't do it at all"

i just put ARP bolts and rod bearings in mine and the bolts were a direct replacment. so far so good here. IMO $70 for ARP bolts is cheap piece of mind. If your there just do it.
