Default Is this cam scrap metal (pics inside)

I put a brand new comp cam in my car this last week and with not even fifty miles on the cam I lost #7. When the piston came apart it scratched the cam im wondering if you guys think it is still any good. Also something kind of odd I noticed was the exhaust valve was just barely hitting the top of the piston but the cam is only a 224/230 110 +0 with a .040 cometic gasket anyway what do you guys think
thanks for the advise Jeremy

and a little carnage for ya

Wow that #7 really did a job on your block, sucks it did. Not sure if that cam would be scrap, you should try taking it to a shop seeing what they say. Or maybe someone on here might tell you otherwise what to do.

Cam might've even been bad to begin with. I wouldn't try to fix it....

That's some rather impressive carnage. I'd say a valve spring failure or something that caused it to drop a valve. Maybe inadequate PTV clearance. What shape are the heads in?

thanks for all the advice everyone the set up was a stock short block 224/230 110 cam with a ls2 timing set, melling 296 pump, patriot gold duals, 7.425 p-rods, caddy lifters, cometic .040 gaskets and stock 241's. Im not sure what caused it the motor had plenty of oil pressure it happened sitting in the drive way working on the idle tune I revved it up a little to keep it from dying and heard a loud bang and saw coolant pouring out the bottom. my first thought was that the head gasket might not have sealed right and it hydrolocked. Than I noticed that the exhaust valve was just barely hitting the piston and thought maybe the piston was already weak and just couldn't take the extra abuse the motor had 103k on it with 92k of that as a highway patrol car so its definitely had a hard life. I think your on to something with the lamp Idea though I was thinking about trying to use four of the pistons and rods as coffee table legs

thanks for the advise everyone
Jeremy
