Spinning shortblock by hand....how much torque should it require?... anybody have an idea how hard (ft lbs) it should be to turn a completed shortblock by hand?
....I just finished putting in new pistons, rings, bearings(main and rod)..and it's taking approx 40ftlbs to turn the assembly in the block. There's plenty of rod clearance...I see no binding anywhere...followed directions on main caps (set thrust bearing, torque'd to spec, etc...)....

Mine was hard to turn with plugs out, probably 60ft lbs. I have a high lift cam in it though and my engine sat for over a year without oil in it. Made 60psi compression across the cylinders had me really worried. I fired it up last week runs perfect, 70psi of idle oil pressure all is fine. I wouldnt be too concerned with how much effort it takes to turn the motor.
