Default what just happened to my engine!

so i was driving my car and out of nowhere i heard this tapping when i went over 2000 rpms so i didnt want to drive it but i had to get it home but i didnt bring it over 2 grand... then i was sitting at a light idling and it started to sound like something fell off and was bouncing around so i pulled over and had it towed home, pulled the valve cover and it appears that nothing is wrong... what could it be?? and i have stock internals

How was the oil pressure? Any change in frequency, of the noise, with rpm?

Bummer. I'd drain the oil and look for metal.

Don't think the worst. I doubt you spun a bearing at all. Post a sound clip if you can. Anyone else thinking broken balancer possibly with the "bouncing around" description. I have never seen a balancer come loose on Gen III though but maybe a first??

i had this happen but i had to switch from mobil1 oil to pennzoil the mobil was too light and i guess when it started breaking down it made my car tick. Try your hardest to post a sound clip.

Like the others said, see if you can get a sound file. Hard to diagnose based on descriptions. Also, check your oil for shavings. if youve got lots of metal in there, its likely a bearing. Its possibly a lifter came apart as well. Could be lots of things.
