Default cam for c5

i have a 2000 c5 vette 6sp with stock heads,flp long tubes, slp exhaust,ls6 intake,twin flow,bbk throttle body. i would like to buy a cam,seems like the next logical thing for me. I have no idea what to get,what specs etc. i defintly want the car streetable,pass emissions,have a decent idle. what do u guys think. i was thinkin of doin the install myself too. mti has a nice package with the pushrods springs and retainers.

We have a 220/220 581 581 cam on a 114 that you can barely hear at idle. We picked up 29.x rwhp on a 00 frc that only mods were air intake & cutouts. What kind of hp does the car put down currently?

I would say it really depends on what you want to do with your car. About two years ago, I installed a 224/228 .53x/.53x on 114 lsa. At the time, that was still considered a fairly small cam, and today it would be really small regarding lift. I put down 400rwhp and 370rwtq with similar mods as yours. It got me into the 11's with some MT ET Streets. That was with no tuning, only a MAFT.

However, I really wanted a mean sound. You can get some really nice gains cam only on stock heads. LGM is claiming some high numbers with their G5X and G5X-2. MTI obviously has some good products. TSP also knows their stuff (call Jason and talk to him).

BTW, I have been running the GM Grand Am, 239/251 on a 106lsa. I do have ported heads. But, I want something even bigger and meaner.

I will be on fourth cam in a year. Shoot me an email (texanjohn@hotmail.com) if you want. There are a lot of things to consider like: tuning (do you have LS1 Edit or access to it as well as access to a dyno), mostly street or strip, road racing, do you mind a rough idle, etc.

definatly want the car steetable. dont want a real rough idle, but also want to know the cams there. i have no idea what the car is putting down for rwhp. id like to get it on a dyno, maybe have it dyno tuned because i have no access to ls1 edit

I don't have a huge lift and I made a decent bit over 420 rwhp and 4xx rwtq on my "low lift" cam (don't like to post the actual #'s because I like to do a bit of friendly street racing )
