Default Hand ported heads

Well i bought some heads from a guy and he siad they were rgr stage 2 heads from the speedinc.com.I was putting them on this weekend and noticed that all of the intake runners on the inside had a hole in them.So i cussed a lil.I did some finger checking, did some looking and it looks like that its not into the water jackets. The hole is about a 1/4" in diameter.I was wondering how much does this affect flow or do i need to get them fixed.

It is common for the porting to break through the casting where the rocker bolt threads protrude on the intake runners. Make sure you use some sealant on the rocker bolts to prevent oil consumption, and you should be ok.

My heads have the same thing no worries. As stated above be sure to use thread sealant on the rocker bolts as oil can work it's way down the bolt shank an introduce itself to the incoming air in the runner.

Didn't notice this on mine, I'll have to look closer I guess if I have the intake off.

On most all of the ported/CnC'd heads you want to put sealant on the "Intake" Rocker bolt. It is the only one that protrudes into the runner. This is common on AFR, TFS, ETP, and pretty much everyone else. Its not a "Problem", just a side effect of ported heads.

There are shorter rocker bolts available also the alleviate the protusion into the runner.

the shorter bolts sold aftermarket are 40mm if my memory serves . of course depending on the amount of porting you might have to shave a bit off the end just to make sure you get the most flow you can . might only be worth a pony or two but might as well do it right .
