Cam install Well First off yesterday was my 18th birthday and yo know what i decided to do(a cam install). well My friend and i just finished aking the engine bay apart (took 5 hours) and then called it a night. My question is how hard is it too actually put the thing back together. Ohh by the way I am usisng instructions from ls1howto.com. So for now i have no car. If you wanna wish me some luck i need it.

I'm the one in the blue shirt wrestling out the radiator. Re: Cam install When taking out the valve spring keepers, have a magnet right there on them so it sucks them up as they come out. They are small, smooth, and oily, so very easy to drop and very hard to find. You might also want to go down to the GM parts counter and get a couple extras just in case.

Re: Cam install Be carefull when looseing rocker bolts. People have stripped them. Also for the crank bolt make sure you get a lot of leverage with a pipe. If you hit any snags or have questions post here. People on this board quick with helpin out.

Re: Cam install should i do the valve springs? The ones i got in the kit are just ls6. just wondering. My car only has 13000 miles so woulnt my valvesprings be in pretty good shape. By the way it the hot cam. Thanks again for the tips
I have no clue what to do. Thanks againg for all your support Re: Cam install Put the used crank bolt on a lathe or a drill press and center-drill a dimple in it. Best to machine it flat first. Take it to a machinist if you don't have access to those tools. Put the crank bolt back in a few threads. Then use the three-armed puller from Pep Boys, and you should have no problems.

Re: Cam install All good advice. It may sound dumb, but after you rethread the crank bolt a few threads in, reverse the gear puller and grip the outer lip inside the inner ring. It may take some finagling to get all the arms right. I used an impact and backed the bolt a few times (as directed by the ls1howto.com directions) and it worked awesome. Good luck.
