Default Cam

I've got a 99 WS6 30th anniv edition. I have every bolt on part there is. Long tibe headers, ls6 intake, custom exhaust, 160 degree thermo, whisper lid, MAF, it's a 6spd. My question is what is the biggest cam i can get put in there? I know i will have to get new pushrods ect, but i am not sure what cam. I heard the Trex was good but can't find it, and Texas performance has a new Giant cam. So i am curious as to what is the biggest i can go. The car is not an everyday driver so i want to go as radical as i can. Thanks for your help.

So which is the better cam? The MS4 from Texas speed, or the T-Rex from thunderracing? I just want somthing with the most power, and the best sound.

it may not be an every day driver, but do you drive it on the street more than just to and from the track?

It's a kind of a show car and it gets driven, some hwy miles, and mostly around the country side on nice days, some track time, and things like that. I just want the power when i need it, and mainly just want as much power as i can get and the best sound.

If you have the right converter & steep gears get the t-rex.

I have a 6spd, and i have 3:73 gears in the back . . . . so would the MS4 be best or the T-Rex?

You may not want to go so big. Do some research on here on specific cams. I dont think you will like a MS4, a MS3 yes. Are you doing heads now/down the road? If not throw the MS4 out of the picture. You can still get a great idle with a TSP 228R 112 lsa or TV2 cam.

I'm pretty sure the giant cam is for more cubes. I would contact Patrick G or Predator Z on this site and ask them to custom spec you a cam. That would be the best way to go IMHO.

I am only lookin at doin the cam for now and heads down the road. I thought you could do an MS4 without doin the heads? Why wouldn't the MS4 work with what I am lookin for? Thank you again for your help on this.

The MS4 is a huge came, exspecially with stock heads and cubes...it would BARELY have bottom end power at all. I have the MS3 cam, PRC 5.3 stage 2.5 heads. With it running a bit rich i made 413rwhp and 359 lb/ft with a slipping clutch but if you punch on the gas anytime blow 2,000 rpm or so it will cut out for a sec, and THEN when the rpm start to go up, it will scream. The MS4 would be worse for in town driving.

I have heard a lot of guys have put in the MS4 with a stock motor and with the right tuning or puttin down over 400hp at the wheel. I have Pacesetter Lt's, LS6 intake, custom exhaust and pretty much every bolt on you can get. Why would i have not bottom end? Guys are puttin the Trex in there stock LS1's and that cam has almost identical specs as the MS4?

It may be just my tune...still has kinks...but its a trade off, typically the more HP you want in the upper end, you will lose more bottom end. I know i did the the MS3 vs. stock cams, even with heads, it still not that bad though, prolly alot to do with tuning, but that thing does scream now, i have been told that when i downshift hard it pulls the front tires off the ground just a hair with street tires, i haven't seen it, but i always drive, lol

There are alot of smaller cams that will do over 400 with stock heads. The guys putting them in stock cars have heads, usually a fast 90, at least 4.10's, and a 4000-4400 stall. Read up on the cam sticky on why you wont have any low end, it is explained in high detail. The T-rex was designed for stock heads but to benefit from the high end power your going to need to change gearing and or stall if it's an auto, and it runs alot better with ported heads.
