If you like the 918s, which I do as well, run the PAC version. PAC was the one that sourced COMP for a while, and it was only when comp went elsewhere that you started to see 918s break.

The PAC springs are your best option in my oppinion. Why throw a heavy dual spring on there when a much lighter beehive will work just as well, and give you higher rpm stability for your valvetrain.

I've seen Pat. Duals break, any spring can break.

I disagree with #4. Valvesprings do not need to be prewarmed to perform properly. A valvespring isn't going to break because it's cold.

i got 22,000 hard run miles out of my bad batch 918's before 4 of them let go...that was with a .591.601 230/236 cam...

i still will not use comp again if i can avoid it but the new 918's should be fine...
go with the pac 1518's...

This doesnt mean every spring will break that they manufacture. If you read through posts here a lot of people have dealt with broken springs from many different manufacturers. Nothing will work 100% of the time... it just sucks that you happen to be one of the minority that had something like this happen to you.

My vote for the op would be to upgrade your springs. If you have the older 918's that were listed as being good to .600 you shouldnt risk it.

incorrect, through thermal expansion you can break a spring

If it was possible to run springs at room temp I would... The more heat, the greater the load loss. Which leads to bad dynamics and possibly failure. I never failed a spring at PAC because "it wasn't warm enough" nor had our metallurgist ever blamed a failure on "insufficient heat".

But other parts of your engine need to be warmed up so it's a moot point.

Just my opinion.

I had 8 of 16 918s break on me. I was lucky I found them before my engine became a bomb. I had about 200 miles on them if that and always let it warm up fully. I hadn't even hit 5k on the tach yet. I think they are just junk. I wouldn't use them if I got them for free. Comp did give me a new set but I just sold them and bought a set of Patriots. All the comps I had broke just below the retainers.
