One thing that is tough if not impossible for most in the performance world is to set a budget and stay with it. Everyone can preach to you all they want, but in the end, do what fits your pocket/needs/wife/kids etc. You're right, the high end heads may not net you the difference in cost now, just don't make the mistake and buy them later. I picked up 46 rwhp/29rwtq switching to Dart 225's and LS6 intake along with 4.10's in between dyno tunes.

true dat redlinez!! another thing to is what is your goal for your car? if its just a street car to toy around with and never see the track like me, than its tough to beat the PRC, PATRIOT, MTI heads for the budget and u still will have a fast car. but if your out trying to get the highest dyno #'s, 10 sec. time slips then yeah go with the pricier stuff like the AFR, TRICKFLOWS...

Checkout the dyno section for all the heads your considering. I think you'll find the PRC heads are proven performers with power potential that rivals the big $$ aftermarket castings. You might also checkout the sponsor section, we have big discounts on LS6 Precision Race Components Heads right now!!! ($150 off!!)))

A Magazine just did a test with a 224 Comp Cam & Installing our PRC 5.3l heads gained 40rwhp with no milling!

I spent less than $1000 on my heads including shipping. I sent my stock 806 castings to Richard at West coast racing heads and told him what i was doing and he gave his recomendation and hedid the work. Now my stock cast heads flow better than the AFR 205 mongoose heads. Richards great and knows his ****.

Id go with the PRC 3.5 stage 2.5s, work out your compression ratios and figure out if you either want to mill the heads(which TSP will do for free) or use thinner gaskets to obtain the best compression.

AFRs and TFSs are great but expensive. If you want a nice driver that performs well the PRCs are a great choice, but if you want all out power than the AFRs or TFS are the way to go.

dont forget, flow numbers dont mean as much as velocity and chamber design.

Livernois here, I use them for all of my builds. I know there is a guy on here w/ a silver ls1 vette that ran their stage1/stage1 package and was @ 420/390 w/ an ls6 intake and stock catback

I know they consistantly see 430-450 on their stage2/stage2 package w/ an ls6 manifold

Guys, as we have seen in this thread, there are several choices when it comes to heads in this price range. Some things to look at are the parts used in the heads, customer service, and which head will give the best all around power for the money.

We have always worked hard to produce only the best products at the best price around while providing excellent customer service. If we can help with your set up in any way, please let us know.

We have worked hard to reduce port volumes on all of our heads while still maintaining awesome flow numbers. Jason constantly tweakes the programs to pick up 1 or 2 cfm to ensure we have the best port we can produce. We are always here to support our customers with a wide variety of products to support our heads along with knowledgeable tech advise with any questions or concerns you my have.

Let me know if there is anything else we can do!

Thanks!
Jon

I agree that the customer needs to take those things into consideration. IMO, the PRC has equal customer service, uses on top quality parts, and will consistently out power all of the other choices.

Sorry, I haven't been on the site in a few days. I was out of the office working a show.

We've made excellent power with our cnc heads and they have very good low and mid lift numbers.

Here is a complete flow sheet for our stage 2 head:

Specs:

New GM 243 casting
5 axis CNC machined
Fully assembled
220cc Intake Runner
Intake Flow Rate 305 CFM
Exhaust Flow Rate 235 CFM
New 2.000 intake valves / 1.550 exhaust valves
GM valve seals
Super 7 locks
Livernois dual coil valve springs good to ~ .690 lift
Livernois titanium retainers
No core required

GM High Tech Performance did a story that compared our Stage 3R heads which are also a CNC stock 243 casting to Dart, Trickflow, Edelbrock, and AFR and the only head that made slightly more power on the dyno was the Trickflow. You can read the story here

Thank you

Regards,

Rick LeBlanc

..... Um.... you're making less than 10 RWHP than more me and my Patriots.... AND you have FAST setup.... so yea, don't get too cocky there, chief.

As you can see in my numbers, I had GREAT success with the Patriot Stage II LS6 ported heads. There are members here who swear by porters like Patriot and Livernois and they continue to put out great numbers at a respectable prices.

Don't listen to talkers like the guy I quoted. In certain cases, the extra $1000+ you're going to spend on aftermarket castings can easily be used to make more power in other areas.
